The Block Reference Insertion Tool is responsible for creating block reference Entities.
From the Toolbar: Find the Block Insertion Tool icon on the Entity Toolbar (color coded blue) and Click on the tool. The tool is now active and ready for use.
From the Shortcut Key: The default shortcut key for the point tool is the letter "B". Simply press the key and the tool will be activated.
From the Command Line: Type "block_define" into the Command Line, at the top of the notification window, and press the Enter/Return key.

1. Select the block definition to be referenced/inserted from the "Select Block" drop down menu.
• | The block definitions in this menu are user Defined or were pulled into the drawing from the Library or Xref. |
2. Click on the drawing to specify the insertion point of the block reference.
3. If scale mode is not "Retain original Scale": move the mouse cursor on drawing screen and click when scale is as desired.
4. If rotate mode is selected: Move the mouse cursor on drawing screen and click when the angle of rotation is as desired.
Reset:
• | After working through the necessary steps the block reference is added to the drawing. The tool automatically resets and you can either continue with other tools or draw another block reference. |
• | Using reset at any time while using this tool cancels all previous steps and restarts the tool. |

To add a block reference using the keyboard open the Tool Tab in the property tree.
1. Select the block definition to be referenced/inserted from the "Select Block" drop down menu.
• | The block definitions in this menu are user Defined or were pulled into the drawing from the Library or Xref. |
2. Type the insertion coordinates into the "Insertion Point" 3D Point Property Field found on the Tool Property Tree and press Enter to accept.
3. If scale mode is other than "Retain original Scale": Type the scaling data in "Scale Factors" property field and press Enter.
4. If rotate mode is selected: Type the desired rotation angle in "Rotation Angle" scientific data property field and press Enter.
Reset:
• | After working through the necessary steps the block reference entity is added to the drawing. The tool automatically resets and you can either continue with other tools or insert another block reference. |
• | Using reset at any time while using this tool cancels all previous steps and restarts the tool. |

Right Click: Brings up a Context Menu containing options for this tool.
Escape (Esc): Cancels current tool and activates the default tool (Selection Tool).
Space: Resets this tool.
